You are not alone

Okay – here’s a quick challenge for you — You need to be successful today. How are you going to do it? Who are you going to rely on?

Well, certainly we most likely believe in ourselves. We believe that our own abilities and talents will help us to succeed. We also (most likely) have co-workers that we will turn to help us get a job done.

But is there anyone else that we can look to for help?

I had the pleasure of attending the New England chapter meeting of the Mailing and Fulfillment Service Association last night. The meeting was attended by various companies that offer some form of mail, fulfillment, print, and marketing services. In some cases, I am sure that they may compete with each other for business. However, this association helps bring them all together. They receive far more benefits by talking to each other, as opposed to avoiding each other.

Last night’s meeting had a guest speaker, who spoke on the topic of “The Anatomy of a Marketing Campaign”. People raised great questions throughout the presentation… Some candidly discussed the marketing efforts (or lack thereof) of their own businesses. They shared the challenges and concerns that they face in furthering those types of efforts.

And then they all discussed ideas and possible solutions that will help them advance their businesses.

I am very confident that if you surveyed the attendees of last night’s meeting, they would all agree that they benefited.

No matter what type of business you are in, I am fairly certain that there is an association that consists of people that are similar to you. They may offer a similar type of product or service. In some cases, they may be your competition. But I think the positives of joining an association far outweigh the negatives. You can share common challenges, and most likely, you will find solutions that you may not have stumbled upon internally.

Do you belong to an association that is related to your line of work? Have you enjoyed it? Have you received benefits? Let me know!
