Is it sounding familiar?

We all want to be unique….. we want to stand out. We want to beat our competition, and be first to market.

That’s great. But the first question is, how do we get people to notice?

While flipping through radio stations on my drive to work today, a song instantly grabbed my attention. I stopped on the dial, and listened for at least 20-30 seconds. I was digging it! I started guessing who it was by — I will admit that with all the whistling,  I thought it was possibly a new, very pop-friendly tune by TV on the Radio.

Well, surprise, surprise. It was actually a commercial for Coca Cola. (You can watch the Studio Session here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJsKt5WuxJY)

Here is why that radio spot worked on me: It sounded familiar!

Sometimes we try so hard to stand out. We try to make everything different and unique. Well, the danger in that approach is that our prospects might not understand at all what we are trying to say, or what we can do for them. Yes, some might bite on the curiosity factor. But there’s a good chance most people will move on to something they can more easily understand or relate to.

If you are trying to get attention for your product or service, you will certainly need to stand out.

However, don’t be afraid to use a bit of the tried-and-true method of sounding a bit familiar to get people to notice what you are doing.

If they can relate, they may just stop and spend a bit more time looking at the unique things that you can offer them.
