I’ll talk when I’m ready

Some people hate the mornings.  Before the clock strikes noon, they may not only dislike communication, they try to avoid it altogether.

When it comes to our marketing efforts, we have tasks that we need to get done. It might be a newsletter… or an email alert… or posting a blog entry.

When do we carry out those tasks? Do we do it when it’s convenient for us?

For example, we may not get around to sending our newsletter until late in the afternoon. Just like a non-morning person tries to avoid talking before noon, perhaps we did not want to push other tasks out-of-the-way to get the newsletter done earlier in the day.

However, it cannot be about us. It needs to be about our audience and our readers, and our customers and prospects.

When is their ideal time to read a newsletter or blog post? What is the best time for them to spend an hour watching and listening to a webinar?

Yes, as bad as some people dislike the mornings, conversations and meetings must still happen in business before noon. It may not be your personal preference, but you have to do it.

The same principle needs to apply to our marketing efforts. If we truly value our target audience, we will make sure to deliver materials when it is convenient for them.
