Have You Had Your N’Sync Moment?

N'Sync album cover

Ah, the music industry.

Is there any other place in the world where you can be “#1” and also the “lowest selling of all time” in the same breath? Last month, Rolling Stone published the most recent artist to own both of those titles.

Amos Lee sold 40,000 copies of his latest album, which gave him the top spot in February 2011. Now, think back to the year 2000 for a second. Back then, N’Sync sold 2.42 million copies of its new album in one week!

For the music industry, the lesson is perfectly clear: things will never go back to the way they once were. People now consume music (through means both legally and otherwise) through a wider variety of channels than ever before.

This has changed how music is made, promoted, distributed, and sold.

Of course, music is not the only industry that has been greatly affected by the web, social media, mobile, and other channels.

So, here are the questions: Have you found a way to use these new marketing channels to grow your business? Are they helping you launch new products and services and to better reach your customers and prospects?

Or are you sitting and wishing that they’d simply go “Bye Bye Bye“?
